Welcome to my website. Here you will find information on my research, teaching and publications, as well as media work.

I work as Professor of Global Security Challenges at the University of Leeds, where I am founding Director of the Centre for Global Security Challenges and Editor of The British Journal of Politics and International Relations. I am also Associate Editor of the European Journal of International Security. Previously I have worked as Subject Leader (Head of Politics), Academic Group Leader, and Director of Research. As well as Leeds, I have worked at the University of Surrey, and studied at the Universities of Cambridge, Birmingham, Warwick and Queensland. I have also worked in Washington DC, based at the Library of Congress as a British Research Council Fellow.
I am the author or editor of six books and over thirty articles and chapters. My research has been funded by the ESRC, AHRC, Leverhulme Trust, and EU. You can download many of my articles on the publications page. Previously, I’ve been lucky enough to co-author with some excellent friends and colleagues, including Ben Fermor, Jason Ralph, Michelle Bentley, Lee Jarvis, Katharine Wright, Matt McDonald, Sir Mike Aaronson, Kalina Zhekova, Rob Saunders, and Ty Solomon… Check out their work!
Outside of work, my hobbies include running (I used to be quite fast…), Arsenal (who used to be quite good…), and craft beer (which remains brilliant). In 2019, I ran for parliament (in a safe constituency). But mainly, my two young children keep me very busy.
